This tour takes us to the medieval times when Viseu was ravaged by Muslims and Christians alike. We will be able to behold the remains of the Moor's fortress at the acropolis of the city and visit Cava de Viriato, which is the biggest monument in extension in the whole Iberian Peninsula and one of the most outstanding earthen architecture works still preserved.
Recent archaeological research indicate that here, lied a roman military camp, or a city camp from the 7th or 10th century.
In fact, the traditional link to the Cava with the legendary hero Viriato was made up during the 17th century. It is an urban myth that, as so many others, became part of the city and its History.
